About Artist 

Bhoi Nikita Solanki was born in Gujarat, India. In 2009, she completed her Diploma in Painting at Shreeji College of Fine Arts in Rajpipla, Gujarat. She has participated in numerous group shows and held two solo shows across the country, as well as participating in installations, art camps, and art residencies. Her paintings have been selected for display in Asia's largest museum, the Bihar Museum, and she has received many other awards for her work.

Artist Statement

Women and their needs remain abysmal to those closest to them. I have been struggling to partake in a lucid dialogue with myself and with society. Within this boundary, I have many narratives that intermingle, clash, and resonate with the real ‘Me’. We are all bound by invisible shackles and I am willing to undo them. These are shackles of patriarchy, pretences, societal pressure, and religious political, and social dogmas. I am here to question, debate, and rationalise all that seems unquestionable to society as a whole. We cannot pretend to believe and behave only if it’s a practice. Hence my paintings largely work in the periphery of scepticism- where reasons find logical disposition and our mind starts questioning the obvious or mundane. When our habits become ritualistic, we have entered a dangerous behaviour of accepting everything without logical reasoning.
My upbringing happened in a small town in Gujarat. Where society and its moralistic approach towards women and their behaviour has been rigid which hardly turns heads if a man is in question. My daily life has many tales to tell and I think my visual language is a good medium to approach the subject which gets lost in words. I believe in symbolic representation of reality, metaphorically and suggestively, endowing particular images or objects with suggestive meaning.
