Vijay Kumar Upadhyay is an artist who is highly admired by serious art enthusiasts for his unique style and personal meaning. He was born in Ahmedabad, India in October 1955. His mature, metaphorical, and conceptually strong works draw inspiration from his own observations of life. He pursued graduate and post-graduate studies in fine arts from MS University, Baroda where he learned many intricacies about art through classes and close association with great teachers. Through his work, he unravels the depths of varied emotional upheavals that define human existence.

Artist Statement

Through my paintings, I try to relate my subjective experience of existence by using a dematerialized human figure to express the states of mind. The figure conveys moods of non-involvement to offer the viewer critical distance to understand the very centre of being. My work expresses the timelessness of human existence, the plurality of mental phases, and questions of individual will and identity. I want to explore the timelessness of human minds in the context of the modern world. An international exhibition will help expand the horizons of visual art and redefine the meaning of art as seen by the young generation. My goal is to present to this new world the beauty of art and the strength of the human mind.
